It was one of the summer’s hottest days, the temperature topping 100 degrees. But on the rooftop bar at Upstairs at the Kimberly Hotel in New York City, the atmosphere was cool and hip. On July 21, more than 60 Bryn Mawr alumnae/i working in finance gathered together for a reception/networking event hosted by members of Bryn Mawr’s investment committee: Chair Cheryl Holland ’80, Susan Barnes ’76, Susan MacLaurin ’84, Bill Rankin P’04, and advisory members John Hull and Marc Reinganum P’12.  Bryn Mawr CFO John Griffith and Eileen Kavanagh ’75, the new president of Bryn Mawr’s Alumnae Association, were also in attendance.

The happy-hour event was an opportunity for Bryn Mawr alumnae/i, many of whom are recent graduates, to network with members of the Investment Committee and gain valuable, expert advice regarding careers in finance.

In addition to the reception, recent efforts to help students and alumnae/i succeed in finance and business careers have included a weeklong workshop in the basics of finance held during the 2011 spring break.  A similar workshop focused on entrepreneurship is scheduled for the fall break. For this course, students will hear from the professionals at Golden Seeds, a New York-based investment firm dedicated to supporting and investing in women entrepreneurs.
