Class of 2016 Receives Acceptance Letters

The wait is finally over for the more than 2,600 students who applied to be members of Bryn Mawr’s Class of 2016. Decision letters were sent late last week and students could go online as of 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, to find out whether they had been accepted.

“I screamed once I realized that I had received an acceptance letter. Then I started to sob hysterically. I’m so happy I got in,” wrote an accepted student on the Bryn Mawr Class of 2016 Facebook page.

With the highest number of applicants in Bryn Mawr’s history vying to join the class of 2016, competition for admission was unprecedented.

“We admitted 41 percent of those who applied, which is certainly the lowest number in many years,” says Dean of Admissions Laurie Koehler. “The Class of 2016 will be among the most academically accomplished, diverse, and socially engaged classes in Bryn Mawr’s history.”

Accepted students come from 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. International students, who make up 21 percent of those accepted, come from 54 countries. China, India, South Korea, and Vietnam are the most well-represented countries. The diverse range of countries from which accepted students hail also includes Bhutan, Uganda, Yemen, Brazil, and Cyprus.

Now that the acceptance letters have been sent out, it’s the College’s turn to play the waiting game. Accepted students have until May 1 to confirm their enrollment.

Admissions 2012

Admissions staff gets decision packets ready for mail.

“We’ve expanded the opportunities to participate in group overnight visits, made admissions representatives more accessible, increased our social media presence, and completely overhauled the material we mail to make sure accepted students have everything they need to make the decision that’s right for them,” says Koehler.

One key for many to making the right decision is the chance to spend time with your potential classmates. This year, students can choose to attend one of three “Preview 2016” events in April. The first preview event takes place Thursday, April 5, to Friday, April 6, with others April 12-13 and April 22-23.

“We’re so grateful to all the faculty, students, and staff who have volunteered to host our visitors, and know that the entire community will be as wonderfully welcoming as always,” says Koehler.
